About 989

People I meet often ask what 989 Design does. And I always struggle a little bit with the answer because it might be easier to ask what we don’t do. When you really consider it, you realize that graphic design affects each and every one of us. From the logo on your business card to the interface on your e-mail to the street signs on the corner–we are all being constantly bombarded with examples of graphic design.

In History of Graphic Design Phillip Meggs wrote that graphic design is used to “give visual form to ideas and concepts…and to bring order and clarity to information.” While that definition is pretty dry, it is a pretty accurate assessment of what we do.

It’s a tricky business, this business of bringing life to people’s ideas. And it’s a business we take very seriously at 989 Design. Our mission is to take your ideas and communicate them, striking a balance between aesthetics and effectiveness.

Our first job is to listen.

Nobody knows your business better than you, so we make listening to clients our highest priority. We take the time to get to know our clients and what their needs and goals are. We listen, ask questions, make suggestions and then create a plan together to accomplish the stated goals. We keep in communication with the client throughout the life of a project, exchanging thoughts and ideas along the way.

Many businesses do not have enough work to have an internal art department and that’s where we come in. I like to think of 989 Design as an extension of our clients’ businesses and become personally invested in each and every client.
