August 6th, 2008 Return of the Loons

Dow Diamond at sunset

The Loons are back in town beginning Thursday, August 7th. It’s only been a little over a week, but it feels like much longer. Compared to the staff—who are at all 70 games per season—I have it really easy. I will shoot around 25-30 games this year. There are only about four weeks left in the season, so if you haven’t gone yet, be sure to get out to Dow Diamond soon.

August 1st, 2008 Recognize me?

Jerry MathersAnybody recognize this guy? No, he’s not the newest addition to the Great Lakes Loons pitching staff. The past month has been photo filled and I’ve had the opportunity to take photos of a few celebrities, including this gentleman, Mr. Jerry Mathers…as the Beaver. I’ll be writing more about it this weekend, so stay tuned.

July 30th, 2008 Site Update

It’s a warm and humid week, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Believe it or not, there is a new blog entry! Be sure to check it out. The entry has nothing to do with graphic design or advertising, but focuses on the folly of man. Well…the folly of me, anyway. Updates coming later this week about Hall-of-Famer Tommy Lasorda and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver. Stop back later in the week for more.

July 28th, 2008 New blogs coming soon!

Summer is passing pretty quickly and the studio is in the midst of shifting gears a little bit. Baseball season is about two-thirds complete and the new hockey season is only seven weeks away. We’re working on a lot of the pre-season pieces for the Saginaw Spirit right now, but I wanted to take a minute to mention that you should check back later this week to read the blog.

I know that I’ve been a bit lazy about updating the blog, but that’s only because I don’t want to write updates just to put new content up. I really try to do a decent job with the blog, which means that I really want to take my time to do it right.

I’ve had a couple of really interesting things happen the past month or so and I will be writing about them later this week. Also, there might be another big announcement on the horizon. So much going on and not a lot of time to get everything done, but get it done we will. And write about it, I will. I promise!

Have a great week everybody.

July 4th, 2008 Studio news.

989 Design StudioIt’s been pretty busy at the studio the past couple of weeks, so I’ve been a little lazy about updating the blog. There is a little break in the action, though, so I can take a few minutes to report on some things at the studio.

First off, as mentioned in previous posts, the new website is up and running. We have had a lot of positive feedback on the site, so a big thanks goes out to Laurie (more about her in a minute) and Mike Weiss of MJ Media—they are the people who actually took Laurie’s design and brought it to life.

The second piece of news is actually the big news I have been promising. I was holding off to try to tie the announcement in with the announcement in the Bay City Times, but I can’t wait anymore. Laurie Russell has joined 989 Design as a designer/art director. Laurie is a fine artist with around 20 years of experience in design/advertising and is a real asset to the studio. Having a second set of well-qualified hands in the studio has been a real help.

The third news item isn’t as cool as adding a designer to the studio, but it’s pretty visible. We finally got around to putting up our permanent signage in the studio (as seen in the photo on the left). We chose to work with Klender Design and they did a fantastic job. The work was finished quickly and the guys who installed the graphics were great. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

That’s all the news I can think of at the moment. Have a great day and we’ll see you soon.
